What strategies can be used to design spaces that provoke both positive and negative emotional responses while reflecting on the lost and enduring wisdom of ancient cultures?
Hiraeth Museum is a memorial to lost ancient knowledge, expressed through its stark, empty structure. Without artifacts or objects, itconveys absence and the erasure of wisdom over time. The museum consists of two rooms: one celebrating knowledge that has endured, the other acknowledging its suppression and loss.
Inspired by the Sierpinski triangle, a fractal that recursively subdivides into smaller equilateral triangles, the museum’s design reflects the fragmentation and replication of ancient wisdom. Created using a Grasshopper script, the structure embodies the idea of expanding knowledge through intricate, interconnected patterns, mirroring the triangle’s self-replicating nature.
